Questions and Answers, Literary Element Review

Chapter VI
  1. How does the Little Prince manage to see so many sunsets? His planet is so small that all he must do is simply move his chair over.
  2. Why is the narrator saying that the Little Prince's life is sad? The little prince only finds himself pleased in watching sunsets.
Chapter VII
  1. Before You Read: Why do flowers have thorns? Thorns protect flowers from animals trying to eat them.
  2. While You Read: What types of things do adults consider "matter of consequence"? Things that can harm them in any way. Life or death situations.
  3. Why does the Little Prince become so angry with the narrator? He begins to start responding like an adult.
  4. How does the narrator try to come the child down? The narrator speaks of drawing him tools to protect his flower.
Chapter VIII
  1. Explain the phrase "miraculous apparition". Something emerging in great beauty.
  2. Why is the flower called she, not it? The flower talks as though she is human so they refer to her as a she rather than an it.
  3. How does the flower "torment [the Little Prince] with vanity"? She takes advantage of him, ask him to do many tasks for her while she continues with her lies.
  4. What does this flower symbolize? New beginnings.
